Is everything in form of opposites ?
Well, We do think always in opposites, don't we? the good and the bad, the beautiful and the ugly, the rich and the poor. Everything is believed to exist in opposites. For most of us, it would mean horror, to travel back in time, to our high school exams, where We had language as subjects. We had this synonyms and antonyms exercise. Which one was easy for you? I know that. all language scholars out there would shout at me, "Both were easy". But, I am a mediocre student and all those who fall into my list may say antonyms. Well, just write the meaning and the opposite of the word "EASY", in a piece of paper, without looking into your dictionary. I guess, your paper looks something similar as below.
EASY - without much hard work.
EASY * difficult.
Which one do you think, is absolutely correct? Yes, the second one of course. But, why so? Because, We our brain differentiates more than it deciphers. Its easier to say, whether its hot or cold, without exactly understanding hot or cold. Our brain has bee trained to work so. Well, what must our mind do then? Obviously, Decipher. Does it do that? I don't think so. Because, we are brain dominant and tend to give more work to grey matter over black matter. Our brain overrides our mind and simply keeps us differentiating.
Well, when we try to invoke our black matter, let us see how it deciphers. Hot and Cold. Common terms, used by all, day in and day out. Heat is energy(something physical). the presence of abundance of this energy is called HOT condition. Is chillness an energy? and can its presence in abundance be called COLD condition? NO. Cold condition is the absence or presence in minimal of low heat energy. So presence or absence of a single thing leads to two conditions. Not the presence of two things.
Let us decipher more. Rich and poor. One who has needs and means to satisfy them, is rich. One who has needs, but do not have means to satisfy is called poor. Again, the presence or absence of means to satisfy needs, leads to two different conditions. You can similarly decipher a lot. And in most of them, you end up with a single thing. The presence or absence of it, lead to two conditions, a PAIR.
Wee, why do we have opposite terms the? Why not a single term? Heat and no heat, light and no light, good and not good, beautiful and not beautiful. Simple. To avoid more negatives, both in our language and our minds. It is a proven fact that, when you think in negative, you end up doing negatives. When some one is pessimistic in his language, the same impression takes down his mind too. It was for this reason, our languages were constructed to be more positive, without worrying much scientifically.
Well, now can we say, everything on Earth is in single form and the presence or absence of it, determines everything else? NO. Don't let me confuse you. But, Is a female, absence of maleness? Is sweetness, the absence of bitterness. Well, they are different entities and are not opposites, they are pairs and they complement the other.
