To Tamil who oppose the Jallikattu protests

To those who oppose Jallikattu protests, especially Tamils,

Vanakkam.

1) You call the protests directionless. You can't be more wrong. The protest has no single leader, but it is not directionless. The short term goal is Jallikattu and the long term goals are preservation of native cattle, self-reliant organic farming, integrating cultural values and scientific advances into our daily lives. And more importantly, telling ourselves that we can stand united when we need to.

2) You believe people have fallen pray to lies. I wonder whose lies ?
     - Its definitely not that of the politicians. The protestors would not let any politician near them.
     - It cannot be that of the film stars. They are divided between the camps.
     - It cannot be that of Tamil nationalists. Hardly anyone listen to them, even though what they make sense most of the times.

The only lies that have prompted these people into action is that of the so-called animal activists. They lied to the courts. They planted evidences and forced the couts hands.

3) You question why people are protesting against PETA and AWBI ?
     - These two organisations lobbied vigourously for the ban.
     - The ways they employed to get this ban are questionable.
     - PETA India CEO is not even an Indian and she is still a member of AWBI.
     - AWBI chairman is also the founder of PFA.
     - AWBI vice chairman is also the chairman of Blue cross.
     - His wife is the vice chairman of Blue cross and the chairman of HSI(Human Society of India).

In all, there are merely 3-4 people who have used half a dozen animal rights NGOs to lobby against Jallikattu. So people naturally wonder why these few people Jallikattu banned. They hunt for information. They learn. They protest against these organisations for playing them for fools.

4) You are irate the people are protesting for a frivolous issue. I can't help but laugh. What's frivolous to you might be very important to someone else. This a stupid argument. Don't use it. People know what to protest for and when. You don't have to dictate it to them.

5) You wonder what will be the outcome of these protests. The most important one is awareness. People are talking about organic farming. They are talking about the plight of farmer. They are talking about water management. They are denouncing pesticides like pepsi and coca cola. They are talking about our culture. They are talking about our language. They are talking about our history. And this awareness will help us get better as a race.

6) You think the protests will not last for long. Let's wait and see on this one.

Finally for those men and women who claim that this is all futile, stop commenting on people on the field. Stop belitting the men and women spending their days under the sun and their nights in the dark without food and water for what they believe in while you sit on a comfortable chair in your air-conditioned houses, eating while your browse your TV channels.

When was the last time people protested so peacefully? When was the last time people of all different ages fought together for a common cause? When was the last time caste and religion took a back seat? When was the last time men and women came together for a cause ? When was the last time protestors cleaned the place they were protesting at? When was the last time students stood up for something ?

By belittling others, you are only belittling yourself. And you need help.

Nandri.
