The curious case of Spot-fixing !

It is not the first time it has happened and it will not be the last. There will be honey traps, there will be CCTV footage, and there will be tapped phone calls. Matches will be rigged and fans will be fooled. Every single time, cricket will lose. So then, what is curious about spot-fixing this time?

As always, bookies were involved. So were call girls, actors, politicians, and the underworld. All the right elements to make a great drama. But the icing on the cake came in form of "towel in the trousers". At first, the idea seems so absurd. Watching the repeat telecasts of it in the media make it look even more crazier. But throw the mongrel in to the mix and the whole thing becomes so fatuous so that it seems possible.

Lot has been said and written about the involved cricketers. Media is out on a mission to slain them, just to sell. The sharks involved are lurking in murky waters too defiant to break surface. And amidst all these men is the avid cricket lover who has been left cheated, duped and robbed. Of his time and money.

Are these cricketers really guilty ? It would be very unwise of me to take a stand on this for it still stands to be proved or disproved. Maybe they are guilty, maybe they are not. Either way, one fact can never be disputed. A man's greed only grows with time.

Also this time around, a big fish has set shore in the nets of the vultures - a first. What about him ? Is he guilty ? Discussing that would be a joke and a waste of time - which is what the vultures are bent on doing to cleanse cricket. To cleanse cricket ? Media ? I can't resist letting out a laugh.

So how do you cleanse cricket ?

Making betting legal ?
---------------------------
Some of my knowledgeable friends suggest making betting legal like in other countries. This suggestion makes a grave assumption - Players will refrain from it - which they will not. So making betting legal would simply mean making spot-fixing legal. A lot of people would love that, ain't it?

NOT GONNA WORK !

Abolishing the IPL ?
-----------------------
IPL is a congregation of glitz and glamour where money speaks louder than cricket. It was never established  to promote cricket. It was simply established to amuse the mass and while the foolish mob was busy being entertained, rob. Amass while amusing has been the motto of the men who has been running this madness.

God created the apple . BCCI created the IPL. The world sinned.

Ever since its founding, IPL has been a success and cricket a loser. I would rather see Dale Steyn yorking and bouncing batsmen rather than seeing him endorsing makemytrip.com. What a waste of talent ?

Disbanding the teams and getting rid off the madness is one way to deal with the problem, but it will also mean denying the youngsters of our country access to professional cricketers from around the world, denying them an opportunity to learn from the best.

However, there is a workaround. County cricket. That is where the greats of the game, learnt it.

Doing away with IPL seems an enticing option, huh ? But will cricketers  do with reduced cash flow ?

MIGHT WORK !

Put cricketers in their proper place ?
-------------------------------------------
India is a country that follows its cricket religiously. Inevitably, cricketers become the Gods, which tempts them to yearn for more than what they need.

Too much money is being dumped into their wallets. Too much love is being showered on them. They get too much attention than they need. Eventually, they turn into marketables. It has happened even with the best of the lot.

Today's cricketers are being offered too many ways to corrupt themselves and most have succumbed to greed.
Some countries have banned cricketers from appearing in ads and some cricketers, out of good will, have cautiously stayed away from it.

Either of the two choices must be offered to modern day cricketers.

WILL DEFINITELY WORK !

Irradiate cricket ?
---------------------
In modern times, Indian cricket has suffered at the hands of two groups, politicians and Bollywood - the cancers of Indian society. Businessmen, for their part, have done some damage too. The advent of all these opportunists have corrupted cricket beyond recognition.

The stupid Shah Rukh Khans and Shilpa Shettys have turned cricket into a skin show. The self-seeking Sharad Pawars and Arun Jaitleys have used it as a vehicle to strengthen their political careers. The hawk-eyed Ambanis and Marans have made a commodity out of it.

The only way cricket can become the game it once was is by de-polluting. Administration of cricket boards should be taken over by ex-cricketers. Lobbyists should be sent home and selection should be based on talent.
Actors should be banned not just from owning teams, but from even entering stadiums(I really hate to see that bloody idiot SRK doing his funny gimmicks in the ground). Businessmen must be stopped trading with cricketers.

Cricketers must decide the fate of cricket.

WILL MOST DEFINITELY WORK !

There is only way to cleanse cricket. Leave cricketers to cricket and cricket to cricketers. Until then, towels will be put into trousers.
