Why brilliant people are running out of India??

கடந்த சில நாட்களாக இந்த காணொளி என் நண்பர்களின் சுவற்றை அலங்கரித்துக் கொண்டிருக்கிறது. இவர் சிவா. "E-mail" ஐ கண்டுபிடித்தவர். என் மாவட்டத்தைச் சேர்ந்தவர். நான் மிக்க மகிழ்ச்சியும் பெருமையும் அடைய வேண்டிய செய்தி. ஆனால், இந்த காணொளியை பார்த்த பிறகு எனக்கு இது மிகுந்த வருத்தத்தையே தருகிறது.
இரண்டு காரணங்கள்,
1) படைபவருக்கு சுதந்திரமின்மை - இது புதிதல்ல. எல்லா நாட்டிலும் ஒவ்வொரு விதத்தில் இது இருந்து கொண்டு தான் இருக்கிறது.
2) போலி தேசப்பற்று - இங்கே இவர் கூறவது போல் தன் நாட்டின் மீது இவருக்கு உண்மையிலேயே அக்கறை இருந்திருந்தால், மூன்றே மாதங்களில் இவர் அமெரிக்க திரும்பி இருக்க மாட்டார். எவ்வளவு தடைகள் வந்திருந்தாலும், தான் நினைத்ததை செய்து காட்டி இருப்பார்.
மாற்றத்தை நீ விரும்பினால், நீயே அந்த மாற்றமாக இரு என்றார் காந்தி. அவர் இந்தியா வந்த பொழுது, ஆங்கிலேயர் நம்மை அடக்கி ஆண்ட காலம். என்னை வழக்கறிஞராக ஆங்கிலேயர் மதிக்கவில்லை என்று அவர் எண்ணியிருந்தால், இன்று அவர் மகாத்மா கிடையாது. என் வாழ்நாளில் கால்வாசியை நான் சிறையிலே கழிக்க வேண்டுமா என்று மண்டேலா அய்யப்பாட்டிருந்தால், அவர் மதிபா கிடையாது. என்னை கருப்பன் என்று அமெரிக்கன் இழிவுப்படுத்துகிறான் என்று மார்டின் லூதர் கிங் நாடு புறந்திருந்தால், சிவா அமெரிக்காவில் அடிமையாய்த்தான் இருந்திருப்பார்.
வெளிநாடு சென்றால் தான் என்னால் சாதிக்க முடியும் என்றென்னும் ஒவ்வொரு இந்தியனும் சிந்தித்து பார்க்க வேண்டியது இது. உன்னை வெளிநாடு சென்று சாதிக்காதே என்று ஒருவரும் கூறவில்லை. ஆனால் உனக்கு தேசபற்று அதிகம் இருப்பது போல் வேஷம் போடதே !
இங்கேயே இருந்து கொண்டு, பல தடைகளைக் கடந்து சாதனை புரிந்தவர் பலர். அப்துல் கலாம் ஒரு சிறந்த எடுத்துகாட்டு. அவரை போல் நீ ஆகலாம். அல்லது இந்த சிவாவைப் போல் நீ ஆகலாம்.
இந்திய அப்துல் கலாமை நேசிக்கிறது. சிவா அய்யதுரையை அல்ல. காலமும் கூடத்தான் !

In the past few days, I have run into this video on Facebook several times. Many of my friends have shared it along side venting out their anger at Indian bureaucracy for standing in the way of Innovation.
Who is this man ? He is Shiva Ayyadurai. A man from who supposedly invented the email. I should be glad that he belongs to my district. But sadly, what he says in the video doesn't make me feel so.
I have two reasons,
1) Lack of freedom to innovate
Unfortunately, this is a state that prevails in any country in the world. In one form or another. Even during the reign the monarchs and after, ego and complacency have led way to bureaucratic behaviours. And let me tell you, ego and complacency are not just seen in India. They exist everywhere.
2) Lack(Pretension) of patriotism
If Shiva who claims to be patriotic, who claims he intended to take technology to the masses, was really patriotic, he would not have jumped on the first flight back to the U.S. just after seeing the first hurdle. He would have stayed and tried to bring the change.
He might have had a brilliant idea. But he must have also understood(when he took the job) that he will face resistance to new ideas/changes. If he had had real conviction, he would have persisted. He would have changed the people's perception about his ideas. Eventually. Yet he did run.
"If you want to see a change, be that change" said Gandhi. When this man came to India, the country was under British rule. Had he run away to S.Africa or London after three months because his ideas were not accepted, we wouldn't have a Mahatma. Had Mandela decided not to spend 27 years in prison, because his idea of equality did not go well with the whites, we would not have a Madiba. Had Martin Luther King left America because he was called a nigger, Shiva himself would still be seen as a slave in the US.
This perception that if are in India, you cannot achieve is grave. Yes, you will have to wait. Yes, you will face more hurdles. Yes, you will be frustrated. Yet when you finish what you set out to, you will be hailed. Abdul kalam is a perfect example.
Let me tell you. Indians adore Abdul Kalam, not Shiva Ayyadurai ! So does time.
